Fillers Q & A

How Do Dermal Fillers Diminish Wrinkles?

Everyone’s skin goes through changes that work together to cause lines and wrinkles. Both the skin itself and its natural layer of healthy, cushioning fat get thinner. Over the years, your skin produces less collagen and elastin, so it loses strength and resilience. Production of another vital substance, hyaluronic acid, also goes down. Since hyaluronic acid adds moisture and volume, you develop dryer skin.

Dermal fillers treat wrinkles with substances like hyaluronic acid. As the filler is injected just under the targeted wrinkle, it plumps up the skin, restores moisture, and helps trigger collagen production. As a result, the wrinkle’s appearance is temporarily diminished.

What is Juvéderm®?

Juvéderm is a family of dermal fillers. Each Juvéderm product targets a specific cosmetic problem, but they all contain hyaluronic acid in a gel-like base.

Different fillers in the Juvéderm line correct moderate-to-severe wrinkles around your mouth and nose, lift and contour your cheeks, add volume to your face, plump up your lips, and soften fine wrinkles around your lips.

Dermal fillers give you immediate results that last one year for most Juvedérm products. The exception is the filler that lifts your cheeks, which lasts up to two years.*

How Does Botox® Diminish Wrinkles?

Botox is an injectable that also diminishes wrinkles, but it works very differently from dermal fillers. It targets a specific type of wrinkle that’s caused by repetitive muscle movement. These dynamic wrinkles develop due to muscles that contract every time you make certain expressions.

Botox is made from a purified form of botulinum toxin. When it’s injected into a muscle, it blocks the nerve signals that make the muscle contract. As a result, the muscle relaxes, and its associated wrinkle is significantly diminished. In some cases, you may even see the wrinkle temporarily eliminated.

You can use Botox to treat moderate-to-severe wrinkles such as:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Frown lines
  • Forehead furrows
  • Neck bands

You’ll see the results in 24-48 hours, and your refreshed appearance lasts up to four months.* Like dermal fillers, Botox gradually wears off, but you can choose to get another treatment to maintain your results.

If you’re ready to turn back time and diminish your wrinkles, call Dr. G’s Weight Loss & Wellness or book an appointment online.
